Temecula Winemaker – Mark Horvath
A large part of Sweet Oaks’ success has come by the hand of Mark Horvath, our incredible winemaker. Horvath discovered his passion for winemaking while working at Carmenet Winery in Sonoma, California. It wasn’t long before his natural winemaking abilities were noticed and desired by some of the top wineries, such as Babcock Winery in the Santa Ynez Valley. Years later, Horvath co-founded Kenneth-Crawford Wines with colleague Kenneth Gummere. The duo produced many of the region’s finest and most sought-after pinot noirs, syrahs, and grenaches. Horvath’s success and astounding winemaking talents were exactly what the luscious vines at Sweet Oaks needed. That’s why in 2016, Heather and Jason Altepeter moved mountains to get Horvath to take the lead role of winemaker at Sweet Oaks. Horvath is currently bottling Sweet Oaks Wine’s first five varietals (Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Viognier, Malbec, and a Cuvee) for the estate’s inaugural vintage.
